There’s no need for me to tell everyone were in the month of December. I’m sure by now you can tell by the weather, holiday decorations are up and of course the Dallas Cowboys already lost their first game of the month to the New York Giants. Welcome to the holidays!
Last weeks loss to the Giants was a tough pill to swallow for many Cowboys fans. They actually played very well for all but 3-4 minutes of the first half. Dominating the Giants on both sides of the ball and about to cruise into halftime with a 10-0 lead and a Giants fan base about to turn on their team. Oh, how we forget to play all sixty minutes. As quick as you can say, personal foul Flozell Adams for being a dumb ass, the Giants got off the deck and scored two touchdowns to grab a halftime lead, momentum, and gave 80,000 fans a reason to stay, drink up, and cheer them on.
Even though Tony Romo somehow found Roy Williams for the go ahead touchdown in the third quarter, the writing was on the wall and Dallas could not stop the big play from happening twice. Brandon Jacobs, who took a simple swing pass from Eli Manning, turned it into a 74 yards touchdown and Dominick Hixon, buried the Cowboys with a punt return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Ouch, that one hurt.
So, the Cowboys lost to the NY Giants 34-27. Yes, they got swept and the Giants have the tie-breaker. Life goes on doesn’t it? It does for Dallas every December. They have to move on and face the music, and the San Diego Chargers this Sunday.
Here come the Chargers with a terrific streak of their own. Where Dallas can’t seem to win in December, the Chargers don’t seem to lose. They’ve won 15 straight games in December. The Cowboys can’t win and the Chargers won’t lose. Sets up for a perfect game Sunday at Jerry World.
I’ll do it , I’ll do it! Tony Romo told the Dallas coaching staff that he’d hold for kicker Nick Folk from now on since punter Matt McBriar isn’t working out. Are you kidding me? Are we going to but that crap that it’s the holder not the kicker? You think maybe Folk hasn’t fully recovered from the hip surgery he had? Nobody even talks about that. I don’t think Folk is completely healthy and if he continues to struggle, bring in your other kicker David Beuhler. Why not?
Wait, I’ve got something better than that. Why should Dallas worry about kicking field goals this week against the Chargers? San Diego can score with anyone and are looking to hang at least 3o on the Cowboys at Jerry World.
If it was up to me, I say screw the field goals this week. If Dallas is in the red zone, go for the touchdown every time. Even if it’s fourth and eight or more from the 35 yard line, go for it! The players will be into it, the fans will be excited by it, and the chances of a first down or a touchdown seem a whole lot better than a field goal making it through the uprights by Nick Folk with Tony Romo holding.
Anyone else feel confident about Folk kicking and Romo holding? I know I don’t anymore. Dallas has to score touchdowns, not kick field goals. Teams that settle for three instead of seven will eventually lose the majority of the time. Force the issue and go for the juggler. Take some chances and go for the kill. Go for the touchdown!
What do you have to lose, another game in December? I think we’re all used to that by now and most Cowboys fans are about to throw their hands up as well as half of breakfast if they don’t start changing things. If the Chargers want to sling it around on Sunday, fantastic. Welcome them to the party with a balls out game plan. Pull out the trickery, the gutsy, or whatever you want to call it. It’s time to tell the children to go to sleep early so you can take out all your toys on Sunday. Fake a punt, fake a field goal, go for it on fourth downs, blitz Rivers, attack them at every angle of the game. Be the aggressor and go for the juggler! What do you have to lose, another game in December?
If you lose, were not surprised because it’s become habit around here. However, if you go against the norm, pull out all the stops, try something bold, aggressive and different. Then just maybe, Cowboys fans and more importantly the players might walk out of Jerry World Sunday night a believer. A believer that maybe this team does have a little something for the holidays.
Boy, wouldn’t that be a nice holiday gift for Dallas Cowboys fans? Not only a gift, but a surprise gift at that. Go ahead Wade, Jason, Tony and the rest of the team. Shock us and surprise us this holiday season. With this crappy economy going on, we could all use some great holiday cheer.
