This is one of the most amazing seasons in NFL history. Were talking wild and wacky stuff so far and were not done yet! Upsets and surprises have been nothing new for those who live and die with their team on a weekly basis. But this year…we got some crazy stuff going on.
First, Brett Favre changed his mind for the 200th time, retired again, had surgery, and joined the Minnesota Vikings to be their savior and take them to the promised land. Trust me, we all had our doubts about Favre. I pronounced him finished at least three times in the past four seasons. But, you put the ageless magic man with Adrian Peterson, add an awesome defense with solid offensive line play…and you have something. We didn’t plan on Favre turning average receivers and Percy Harvin into superstars. He’s still a great leader and still getting it done. Will he make all the way through the playoffs in one piece?
How do the Indianapolis Colts do it? Tony Dungy retires and hands things off to someone who is actually more subdued and quiet than himself. Well, Jim Caldwell has taken over as Head Coach, and he hasn’t missed a beat. As a matter of fact, Caldwell, Peyton Manning and the rest of the Colts are currently unbeaten and have broken several records thus far. The Colts are unbeaten, unshaken and on their way to Miami.
Hey, what about the boys from San Diego? Once again, the Phillip Rivers and the Chargers are on fire in December and would love nothing better than to finally reach the Super Bowl this year. No team has won more games in a row in December than the Chargers, 16 straight wins. It’s a shame the playoffs are in January and the Super Bowl is in February. They are a team to be watched.
How about the Philadelphia Eagles? The only team the had the balls to sign Michael Vick and it’s starting to pay off as the weeks go by and the playoff near. Andy Reid has done an awesome job of slowly adding Vick the the offense. Each week, we see Vick get a few more plays and definitely some new wrinkles for the “wildcat” offense. DeShaun Jackson is the most explosive player in the league bar none. He can catch it, run it, and return it better than anyone. He’s the “big threat” for the Eagles. Lucky for them, they have Donovan McNabb, Vick, Brian Westbrook when his head clears, Jeremy Maclin, and I’m sure a few others.
Tom Brady of the New England Patriots is not dead yet and his Patriots will probably have something to say before this season ends. The Patriots have learned you can only lose so many leaders and still be dominant. Brady can’t do it on his own. Especially when Randy Moss only plays when he wants to. Thank god for Wes Welker!
Finally, you have the “Aints”. I’m sorry, the Saints. The New Orleans Saints. The undefeated New Orleans Saints! It’s still amazing the Saints have not lost a game yet and look as dominant a team as there is in the NFL. Drew Brees has been a terrific QB for a few years, but his team is scoring almost 36 points per game! Who the hell needs defense when you score that many points every game! How do you not root for the Saints to go all the way this season? Undefeated regular season…why not? Go to the Super Bowl? Why not? Face the Colts in the Super Bowl and both enter the game undefeated? Now that would be far fetched and unbelievable. It would be delicious.
